I have been really intrigued with a book I’m reading at the moment about American History illustrated with the relevant art of the time. Have a look at this sculpture and see if it resembles the construction of the time which is the 1930’s.
The picture isn’t the best because I had to take a photo of it from the book. No images on the net which was a surprise. I thought it may have been on the Newark Museum’s website. There was reference to it but no image. Anyway there it is and it grows on you. Roszak was an artist combining constructivism and metaphysical realism. I think what is interesting about the discovery of this artist is his obscurity when his art is of such standard. Below is an informative video of some other work by this artist.

Another artist I’ve discovered through the week is Australian war artist Alan Moore. His work reflects the gruesome macabre scenes of war with strong gestural movement. Below is a touching video of the artist at the War Memorial.

As can be seen by these artists I’ve been looking at this week my thoughts have a tendency to meander.
To the art I have been doing this week now. Printmaking again but this week I used plastic sheet to do an etching. The results were mixed and I soon realised to wipe off all the ink leaving the plate clean except of course for ink in the indents results in a boring print. Leaving residual ink adds character.
And I have been out sketching again this time in Maryville. Cars seem to feature frequently in my drawings. I thought I was going to paint these drawing up but I’m so in to printmaking at the moment that I know they’ll end up as ink on paper.
