Although I tend to paint without reference to drawings and photographs it’s still handy to get out there in the world and sketch, gathering ideas that embed themselves somewhere in the grey matter to pop up spontaneously when I’m working on a painting. Yesterday the Novosketchers ventured to the canoe pool at Newcastle beach for a quick sketch and chat and it was handy to get some ideas on paper. I’ll be referring to the drawings when I next tussle with the paints. Last year on another such outing we went to Dudley for a wander about the suburb. I took a few photos this particular day rather than sketching. And here is the outcome. I’ve also included a couple of the photos from the day. It demonstrates I’m not a slave to realism. There’s a lot of artistic liberty happening there.
I’m also happy to say I sold a painting last week at Fancy That, the shop I share at The Emporium. This is the first large painting I’ve sold in a while. My small paintings tend to have more appeal. But perhaps that’s the price!
