I’ve just pulled out all my pumpkin plants ready for a new planting. Well this is hopeful seeing as though I’m not a green thumb. I thought I’d give some flowers a go this winter so have bought poppy and cornflower seeds. This could be risky but I’ll give it a go. Poppies in Newcastle? May not be the best conditions but  I’ve been enjoying cut flowers (and they’re my cut flowers)in the house and poppies would be perfect. The carnations have been great because they don’t need mollycoddling.

Now to the tapestry!!! What was I thinking? This would have to be the most time consuming little phenomenen. I’ll be 80 by the time I finish it and that’s if I’m lucky. Take a look at how far I’ve come. Not very. That’s one prominent chin isn’t it. It will be interesting to see what I can do with it as I’ve discovered it is difficult, if not impossible to unpick cross stitch. Especially as I’ve mixed threads for this chin.

I’m still blogging reviews and still keen. With anticipation I await the first exhibition for the year at the new Frontroom Gallery, which of course is the tafe gallery. A rabbit exhibition!! This art is well worth seeing (and buying cos it’s cheap) But often there is something quirky and there is a real spirit at the tafe that you don’t always see in other exhibitions. Perhaps it’s the environment. Being around an abundance of creative types allows everyone to feed off one another. I’m trying to maintain this soulful, peculiar feel to my art by surrounding myself with art books. Ah! A great excuse to buy more. But honestly there is a time when feeding off the eccentricities of a learning environment needs to end. Anyway stay tuned for the tafe’s first review of the year.

It seems that painting is fitting around reviews lately. I am still painting though. I have a few group shows coming up that I’m aiming for. This is good because it keeps me on track. I also have another idea that involves Japanese or Utamaro art http://www.adachi-hanga.com/en_ukiyo-e/gallery/utamaro.htm This idea hasn’t been resolved yet though it has been loitering around in my head for a number of years now. I just have to do it like I did with the tapestry whether it works or not.

I’m posting a close up of some art I’ve been working on and also my art studio. DSCN2884[1]This happens to be my house which seems to breed stuff. Take note: there is no sewing machine. I put this away yesterday considering I made a skirt last week that should see me through for a while and my daughter started uni this week so she won’t be sewing for a while.
