Edouard Manet

I’ve been reading about the history of the Salon and it’s birth in the 17th century when Louis XIV became its patron. Named after the Salon Carre, a room in the Louvre it became more of a biennial in 1737. Although it was open to all artists it was very much a conservative exhibition favouring those from the Royal Academy. Anyway click the link to read more if you so desire. Cheers
